Emma Jean Lazarus Fell in Love
A Fiction, Childrens, Middle Grade book. That was how it always was with Colleen: No matter how sad she felt,...
Emma-Jean is experiencing something new and unsettling, but not entirely unpleasant. It?s a fluttering in her heart when she imagines herself asking Will to the seventh-grade dance. Her best friend Colleen is worried that Will might laugh if Emma-Jean invites him. After all, Emma-Jean is a different kind of girl?certainly different from queen-bee Laura, who has always made it clear that Will is hers. Maybe Colleen can distract Emma- Jean from this risky plan by recruiting her for a top-secret investigation. You see, Colleen has an anonymous admirer, and if Emma-Jean can help her figure out who he is, then Colleen could ask him to the dance. Even more endearing and genuine than its predecessor, this companion to the award-winning Emma-Jean Lazarus Fell Out of a Tree steals your heart and inspires a smile that lasts as long as the novel itself. . . and longer.

I love this book and its predecessor so much. The deadpan way in which Emma-Jean looks onto her preadolescent peers' "problems" is just so hilarious and engaging. The one thing I would change about this book is the general predictability of the whole "secret-admirer" plot. I almost immediately figured out who it was, perhaps because... My LJ write-up.I'm actually writing up one book behind, but I needed to start something I liked before falling asleep last night, and didn't start blogging The Prince of Mist until after I'd finished this, and then didn't feel quite mentally flexible enough to switch immediately from cranky reader to charmed reader. Now I'm not quite... It's spring time and love is in the air. Colleen is sure no one would want to go with her, when she finds a mysterious note in her locker suggesting a secret...
