I'd only read MALCOLM before and liked but didn't love. I should probably go back and read it again having read this. Purdy's undeniably a genius. What amazes me is that all these stories of varying length, tone and theme all came from the same mind. Some might have surface similarities but no two are very much alike. With many collections--especially... Deeply, deeply weird. And probably more realistic than the average realist's work.... A few were so unique and so good...some were so depressing....
